Ron Bowman was born an army brat in Aachen, Germany in 1972. He received a BFA in Illustration from San Jose State University in 2002. While there, he studied under notable illustrators including Barron Storey and Alice Carter. He currently works in London as a matte painter for the motion picture industry.
In 1999 and 2003 he won prestigious awards from the Society of Illustrators in New York and was featured in their group exhibitions. In 2006 his work was featured in two national juried exhibitions in the U.S.: "The Human Form" exhibition at the Illinois Institute of Art, Chicago; and the "Trains Past, Present, and Future" exhibition at the St. Louis Artists' Guild.
In his day job as a cinematic matte painter, Ron's work is highly photorealistic and exacting. He carries those skills and tendencies into his fine art, but loosens it up and attempts to infuse his work with sensibilities gleaned from studies of contemporary artists as well as the old masters. His own personal style is evolving, informed by a variety of disparate influences that are harmoniously fused into carefully crafted compositions. |
